From its first editions to its twentieth, SOUK has always been more than a marketplace — it is a living narrative, one that continues to unfold through image and sound.
When we were celebrating our 10th anniversary edition in 2013, we created our first video series — marking the beginning of SOUK’s film journey. Since then, video has become one of its most powerful storytelling tools. What began as short portraits of designers and their studios soon evolved into a visual language that captures the rhythm, emotion, and pulse of Montréal’s creative scene. The first of these films featured ten designers whose careers had been launched at SOUK — each creating an exclusive piece to celebrate the fair’s 10th anniversary. These portraits were both homage and foundation, setting the tone for the visual storytelling that would follow in years to come.
Each film is a living archive of Montréal’s creative pulse, translating the atmosphere of each edition — from intimate ateliers to cinematic cityscapes — capturing the hum of conversation, the glimmer of light on crafted objects, and the focus of hands at work.
Through collaborations with filmmakers, artists, and local personalities, SOUK’s visual storytelling has traced the evolution of a creative city. Projects like J’aime MTL // I love MTL in collaboration with Tourisme Montréal brought together 11 voices from Montréal’s cultural scene to celebrate the designers shaping its identity. Later videos expanded that narrative, revealing new venues, dialogues, and hybrid experiences — from the historic RCA building to virtual talks during the pandemic.
Two decades later, these archives stand as emotional time capsules, each frame charged with the moment’s energy and culminating in our latest video—an intimate tribute uniting designers, collaborators, team members, and volunteers who have shaped SOUK’s creative legacy. — each frame charged with the energy of the moment it captured. They remind us that SOUK has always been a community in motion, reflecting the collective spirit of Montréal design: past, present, and what we hope for the future.
From our first portraits to our most recent project, we’ve continued to explore what this community means — culminating in our latest video, an intimate tribute featuring members of the SOUK community, both past and present. Designers, collaborators, team members, and volunteers all came together to share their voices, their stories, and their love for the creative ecosystem that has shaped us all.
