SHAPING LEGACY – SOUK

Twenty years later, SOUK remains what it has always been — a collective story shaped by hundreds of hands, minds, and hearts. Designers, collaborators, volunteers, and visitors have all contributed to this creative movement, each bringing their energy, vision, and generosity. Beyond the event itself, this community has become the soul of SOUK — the reason it continues to evolve and inspire Montréal’s design culture. Over 800 designers and countless stories later, its impact continues to ripple through the city’s creative landscape.

Community at SOUK means more than participation; it’s about collaboration, trust, and shared belief in the power of design. From the early years, when friends and family lent their hands to build displays and tell stories, to today’s network of designers, media, partners, and design lovers — every individual has played a part in shaping a space where creativity thrives. Volunteers have given their time, photographers and writers their craft, and designers their vision. The mutual exchange of support and inspiration has fueled a movement where everyone contributes to something larger than themselves.

Over two decades, this synergy has launched countless careers and collaborations, positioning SOUK as a vital voice in Montréal’s creative scene. It has built bridges between disciplines — connecting artisans, architects, makers, and dreamers — while creating a living archive of ideas, encounters, and shared experiences. What began as a gathering of like‑minded creatives has become an ecosystem of innovation and belonging.

Our audience has grown with us, from close friends to industry leaders, collectors, and passionate newcomers. Through immersive experiences like Talks, Pop‑Ups, and experiential spaces, SOUK continues to nurture curiosity and awaken new generations to the value of design. Together, we’ve proven that creativity can shape communities — and that communities, in turn, can shape legacy.

Shaping Legacy, our 20th‑edition theme, celebrates this continuum: a cultural memory built by many, carried forward by all. (our 20th edition tagline) is about how those interactions create cultural memory — transforming individual stories into collective heritage.
