For over two decades, the SOUK’s unmistakable signature has been shaped by the discerning eyes and minds of more than sixty jurors — our curators. Designers, architects, editors, artists, and creative leaders who, year after year, have defined what excellence looks like in Montréal’s design landscape. Their contribution goes far beyond selection: they have set the tone, nurtured dialogue, and helped build the identity of contemporary design in our city.
The SOUK’s story began with a single vision. In its inaugural year, the founder curated the selection alone — guided by intuition, curiosity, and a desire to bring together a vibrant creative community. But by the second edition, it became evident that this process needed to grow beyond one person. A call for projects was launched, and the first jury was formed — marking the beginning of an annual ritual of collective curation.
Since then, each edition has gathered a new constellation of voices, anchored in a shared pursuit of quality, authenticity, and respect for the SOUK’s signature and vision. Never repeated, the jury changes every year — ensuring fairness, renewal, and fresh perspectives.
Each member brings their own expertise — whether in product design, storytelling, branding, presentation, originality, or material quality. The discussions are rich, sometimes passionate, always purposeful. Every “yes” or “no” is debated, refined, and anchored in a shared pursuit of quality and authenticity.
What makes SOUK unique is that every designer, whether emerging or established, must apply anew each year. Selection is based not on reputation, but on novelty and creative evolution. This rule — unknowingly radical at the time — became one of SOUK’s strongest pillars. It has encouraged designers to constantly push their practice, offering the public ever-fresh experiences and sharpening Montréal’s collective eye for design.
Our jurors — our curators — are the invisible architects of this evolution. Their time, care, and volunteer commitment have left a lasting imprint on both the event and the city’s creative pulse. Through their curation, SOUK has become more than a fair — it is a mirror of the community’s growth, resilience, and imagination — a legacy continuously being shaped after two decades of design, creativity, and emotion.
