From its earliest editions, SOUK has treated space as a language — one that speaks through light, material, and movement. The scenography of the fair is singular: each edition is composed as a sensory journey, guiding visitors through departments and designers in a way that feels both intuitive and intentional. Low tables invite the gaze downward, focusing attention on the object itself — a gesture of intimacy and discovery rather than distance. Every texture, height, and pathway is designed to engage the senses, the intellect, and the emotions.
Children are naturally part of this experience. SOUK’s environments welcome them to explore, learn, and awaken their sense of wonder through design. By exposing them early to creativity, space, and material, we nurture a sensitivity to beauty and awareness of how design can shape a more thoughtful, holistic way of living.
This promise deepened with SOUK HABITAT, which transformed the act of visiting into living. In 2020, amid global isolation, SOUK imagined a sanctuary a long-awaited treasure: an exhibition designed like an apartment.
Hosted by Ivanhoe Cambridge at Place Ville Marie, this 9,300-square-foot space celebrated Montréal’s design community and embodied the idea of home as comfort, reflection, and presence. Visitors wandered through refined, lived-in vignettes where each object formed part of a larger story about community and belonging.
During that same period, SOUK extended this sensory world online with a digital platform showcasing over 500 creations, powered by Lightspeed — a bridge that connected designers and audiences directly, preserving the warmth and exchange that define the event.
A continuity of SOUK’s vision is expressed through various satellite projects, all connected by the same language and vision. From Talks & Panels to Pop-Up Stores and Design Guides exploring Montréal’s creative landscapes from Mile-Ex to Saint-Henri, each of these initiatives contributes to a holistic experience where creativity is not only seen but felt. Together, they embody SOUK’s sensory, intellectual, and deeply human promise.
